Nov 05, 2015 (newstodate): For the time being at least, the situation in ground handling at Finland's Helsinki Airport seems rather stable, with three service providers in the market.
The largest handling provider is Swissport Finland that launched business from December 1, 2011, with Finnair as its launch customer for baggage and apron services under a five-year contract while Finnair performs its own check-in and cargo services.
-Today, Finnair accounts for some 65 percent of all flights at the airport easily making it the largest customer with Swissport. Swissport also provides cargo handling at Helsinki with Turkish Airlines Cargo as one of its customers, says Heini Noronen-Juhola, Finavia VP Airline Operations.
-Second-largest in ground handling services at Helsinki is Aviator that took over the business of Servisair by May 2014, now serving carriers including British Airways, KLM, SAS, Japan Air Lines, and Turkish Airlines, and performing also cargo handling at the airport.
-Third and smallest is Finavia's own handling subsidiary AirPro that from September 1, 2015 is handling Norwegian that was until then served by Aviator.
-In addition to these companies both DHL, TNT and UPS perform own handling at the airport, says Ms Noronen-Juhola.
