Nov 12, 2015 (newstodate): Plans for new flights between Copenhagen and Akureyri, in Iceland, from summer 2016 are again in the balance after the demise of Estonian Air.
In September 2014, the Icelandic travel agency Trans Atlantic signed a LoI with Estonian Air concerning new flights from summer 2016 between Iceland and Denmark.
Plans were that Estonian Air would provide a weekly rotation from May till September 2016 between Akureyri and Copenhagen Airport with Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft.
But with the stop of operations by Estonian Air, the case is again open.
Trans Atlantic is now, however, in talks with Nordic Aviation Group, the state-owned Estonian successor to Estonian Air, and a decision is expected later this year.
Over time, several attempts have been made to secure direct air services between Akureyri and Copenhagen, but all have so far failed after a brief period or even prior to launch of planned services.
