Nov 02, 2015 (newstodate): Will Norway land the first direct air link with India?
At least negotiations between representatives from the two countries have resulted in an understanding that there may be a need for direct flights between the two countries, and India has designated Jet Airways to provide the flights.
The two countries signed an open skies agreement in 2008.
So far, this is however the only sign of a coming Indian air link with Scandinavia.
The Norwegian GSA Flyservice was JET Airways GSA until some years ago but is no longer cooperating with the carrier, and denies having heard news of the said route opening.
The talks over an Indian route to Norway may also be a response to coming plans by Norwegian to launch flights between Scandinavia and India, utilizing the open skies agreement.
Jet Airways operates a fleet comprising 115 aircraft including 10 Boeing 777 aircraft and has placed order for delivery of 10 Boeing 787 aircraft.
In 2010, Denmark's Copenhagen Airport was seen as a potential runner-up for Air India that was seeking an alternative to routing their US-bound traffic away from Frankfurt.
This did not, however, materialize, and the relations between Denmark and India remain rather cool due to a dispute over an Indian claim to have a Danish national handed over for legal investigation on an arms delivery to a Maoist group in the 80'ies
