Nov 26, 2015 (newstodate): As from today, Ukraine has banned all flights including transit flights by Russian carriers through its airspace.
The move is a further deterioration of the situation in aviation between the countries where direct flights between Russian and Ukrainian destinations were banned already from October 29, 2015.
Again, Air Moldova is seeking ways to exploit the situation by offering an increase in flights between Russian and Ukrainian destinations via Chisinau, and this is again reiterated after the new Ukrainian ban on Russian overflights.
Moldova is bordering on the southern frontiers of Ukraine and hopes to be able to continue servicing flights to Russia in cooperation with Russian airlines that are themselves barred from the airspace.
Air Moldova currently provides 10 daily flights between Chisinau and Moscow but has declared itself ready to increase the frequency, if warranted.
