Nov 16, 2015 (newstodate): Already in summer 2015, the Latvian carrier airBaltic engaged in new productions to counter-balance the negative effect from the shortfall of transit traffic at Riga Airport from Russia and other east European markets.
One way was to increase the carrier's charter activities to grow business outside the existing envelope.
The carrier is to continue these efforts also in summer 2016, and one such new venture is the provision of flights froM May 2016 between Zurich, in Switzerland, and Heringsdorf on the Usedom Island, Germany, in cooperation with a tour operator.
airBaltic's first flight operations entirely outside the Baltic region started from May 9, 2015, with Bombardier Q400 aircraft between Frankfurt and Heringsdorf on the Usedom Island in cooperation with the German tour operator ArGe Group.
