Nov 11, 2015 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier will become the first operator of the latest aircraft type from Bombardier, the CS300.
The deliveries will start by H2, 2016, and the carrier has placed firm orders for 13CS300 aircraft while holding also options for a further seven CS300 aircraft.
airBaltic expects to have 10 CS300 aircraft flying before the end of 2016, enabling the carrier to phase out its current fleet of eight Boeing 737-300 and five Boeing 737-500 aircraft from 2017.
After that, airBaltic will be operating an all-Bombardier fleet also comprising 12 Q400 aircraft.
The first deliveries were originally slated for 2013 but the first flight by the CS100 aircraft was only on September 26, 2013, about one year later than originally planned as the program was hit by numerous snags along the way.
