Nov 10, 2015 (newstodate): Finland may be one of only few European countries devoid of low-cost flight options.
-Helsinki Airport is absolutely not a low-cost airline airport, says Heini Noronen-Juhola, Finavia VP Airline Operations.
-We did see easyJet here for a time, but they left again. Also Ryanair has been sniffing at the Finnish market, but today there are no low-cost operators flying into Helsinki.
-In Finavia's comprehensive plans for development of Helsinki Airport there will also not be any dedicated facilities for low-cost carriers. They are welcome here but at conditions similar to all other operators, says Ms Noronen-Juhola.
Ryanair closed down all operations in Finland from autumn 2015, and easyJet made its first entry at Helsinki Airport in 2008, but pulled out from the last of its three routes already in summer 2011.
Coming closest to low-cost operations at Helsinki is Norwegian that is, however, a hybrid carrier - and today the airport's second largest airline in terms of operations, accounting for 12 percent of all flights at the airport - and set to grow.
