Nov 06, 2015 (newstodate): With 65 percent of the traffic, Finnair reigns supreme as the single largest carrier at Finland's Helsinki Airport.
-We are happy to secure conditions for a sustained growth in Finnair's traffic and route network with the opening of more Asian destinations in the coming years, says Timo Jarvela, Finavia Head of Airline Relations and Route Development.
-We would, however, also be keen to attract more wide-body operators to Helsinki. Today, besides occasional charter operators, Japan Air Lines is the only other wide-body operator with scheduled daily Boeing 787 flights from Tokyo Narita Airport.
-One market that we would be happy to grow is flight connections between Finland and destinations in the USA in addition to New York, Chicago and Miami served today by Finnair. We thus still do not have non-stop flights from Helsinki to US West Coast destinations like San Francisco and Los Angeles, but I am convinced that there is a significant potential for such routes.
-We are therefore eager to follow future plans by Norwegian, today our second-largest operator with 12 percent of the passengers at Helsinki. In addition to many routes to Scandinavian and European destinations, Norwegian already operates flights between Helsinki and Dubai but more might come as this carrier expands its Boeing 787 fleet, says Mr Jarvela.
