Nov 11, 2015 (newstodate): The demise of Estonian Air seemingly leaves the carrier's five aircraft idle.
But that is not to be..
The first Estonian Air CRJ900 was introduced in commercial service on January 27, 2011, the second aircraft was added in February 2011, and the last of the aircraft ordered was delivered in December 2011.
The lessor for the three aircraft is, however, now Transpordi Varahaldus, who took over the leasing contract from the original financier, Export Development Canada.
Transpordi Varahaldus was set up in September 2015 by the Estonian state alongside Nordic Aviation Group to cover up for the expected grounding of Estonian Air following a negative outcome of the EU probe, which was announced on November 7, 2015, leading to the immediate stop of Estonian Air flights from November 8.
According to Erik Sakkov, Nordic Aviation Group COO, the three aircraft will be put on lease to this carrier by the end of 2015 or shortly into 2016.
In September, Estonian Air also took delivery of two CRJ700 aircraft on a leasing contract with the US company Regional One, and this contract will also be transferred from Estonian Air to Nordic Aviation Group.
