Nov 19, 2015 (newstodate): While the launch customer of the coming new Bombardier CS300 aircraft airBaltic is now close to having secured its financial muscles with a new investor to sustain its order, Bombardier itself is still struggling to keep the CS300 project afloat.
Bombardier is deeply in need for fresh capital to support the under-budgeted project costs of the CS series, having seen its proposals to Airbus turned down and receiving also little interest from Boeing on similar pleas for cooperation or outright sale of the project.
Bombardier has then turned to the Canadian state for assistance - but while the Quebec regional government has pledged its support, the Canadian state seems more reluctant at the idea of being tied to potential risks from direct financial involvements in the aircraft industry.
Also Canadian state aid to Bombardier might trigger a fresh round of war over competition issues with Brazil's Embraer and the US company Boeing.
So while the survival of the CS aircraft series remains unsettled, airBaltic still plans for take delivery of its first CS300 aircraft by the second half of 2016.
