Nov 06, 2015 (newstodate): Confusions reigns in Russia over the immediate effects from a ban on Boeing 737 aircraft type operations.
Behind the surprising move is a decision by the Interstate Aviation Committee regulating airlines, airports and aviation in the CIS region to suspend the type certificate of the Boeing 737 in all its versions and models.
Such a decision, however, pertains to Russia's aviation authority Rosaviatsiya that claims that it has not itself taken such action.
If enforced, the action would ground half of Russia's civil aviation and bring flights on a number of domestic and international routes to a halt.
In the fleets of Russian carrier are now about 194 Boeing 737 aircraft, but most of them are leased and on foreign registration and would thus not be affected.
To sort out things and get a clearer appraisal of what is the situation, Boeing representatives will today meet with Russian representatives.
