Nov 04, 2015 (newstodate): After a prolonged search for investors, the Latvian state has now found a financial partner to take a stake in the state-owned carrier airBaltic.
Stepping in with deep pockets is German national Ralf Dieter Montag Girmes who will throw in 52 mio euro obtaining 20 percent of the shares in return, while the Latvian state is ready to add another 80 mio euro into airBaltic to secure its continued development, all loan obligations and the acquisition of the coming fleet of 19 CS300 aircraft.
With the significant capital injections, airBaltic will have enough equity to secure external loans and means for financing its future.
While information is still sparse, it appears that Mr Montag Girmes, owner of Gut Schloss Gundorf near Leipzig, is deeply engaged in global financial transactions through, among other venues, an investment consultancy firm, ARQ Holding operating mainly in Germany, Russia and Cyprus and with other roots in similar tax-friendly environments including Malta and Panama.
