Nov 26, 2015 (newstodate): Armenia's record of civil aviation continues to produce mainly failures and bankruptcies.
On the ground since October 2015, Air Armenia has now been declared bankrupt due to a large debts pile.
Set up in 2003, Air Armenia was initially restricted to cargo operations as all passenger rights were held by Armavia.
Armavia, however, collapsed in 2013, setting Air Armenia free to introduce passenger flights as well, allowing the carrier to become the country's leading airline.
But already from October 2014, the carrier suspended flights and aborted several later attempts to get back into business.
Now another new carrier is shaping up in Armenia - Alliance that plans to take to the air in 2016 with two leased Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft, currently deployed in Zhukovsky near Moscow, adding four more aircraft by 2017.
The first flight is currently scheduled for March 27, 2016, and Alliance will initially fly from Yerevan to Moscow, Beirut and Tehran, with plans to add more routes to other Russian cities as well as to Ashgabat, in Turkmenistan.
