Oct 29, 2015 (newstodate): The Russian carrier Transaero is on the brink of bankruptcy - but may still have a chance for survival.
The Russian aviation authority Rosaviatsia revoked Transaero's AOC Rosaviatsia over financial and safety concerns, and the carrier stopped flights from October 26, 2015, after earlier talks with Aeroflot ended without results.
Coming in now as a last-ditch effort to keep Transaero alive is S7 Sibir Airlines that has reportedly acquired 51 percent of the shares in the hope of averting the carrier's bankruptcy.
The Board of Transaero has now appointed Valery Zaitsev as CEO of the company.
In January-September 2015, S7 Sibir Airlines was Russia's 3rd largest carrier in terms of passenger, after #2 Transaero and #1 Aeroflot.
