Oct 09, 2015 (newstodate): The second Fokker 50 converted to freighter with large cargo door has now entered service with Amapola, the Swedish ACMI and postal carrier.
The ex-airBaltic Fokker 50 has completed its conversion from passenger to cargo aircraft, and together with the first similar freighter it has now been put on the ad-hoc and ACMI market, opening a new business segment for Amapola that is so far focused on postal flights for Post Sweden.
In both cases the conversion project has been performed on a contract with the Dutch company Aircraft Conversions while the actual conversion has been performed by a US provider.
The carrier's CEO, Frank Christensen earlier told newstodate that if the new business proves a success, Amapola will consider adding more Fokker 50 aircraft for large cargo door-conversion.
No plans for additional converted F50 aircraft are, however, on the table as of now, Mr Christensen says.
With the latest delivery, Amapola now operates a fleet comprising 15 Fokker 50 cargo aircraft.
