Oct 05, 2015 (newstodate): Increased capacity at two of three major Swedish airport, managed by Swedavia, has put its stamp on the cargo statistics for January-August 2015.
Thus Stockholm Arlanda Airport has seen cargo volumes up by 3.5 percent, y-o-y, to 93,804 tonnes, and volumes at Malmoe Airport were also strongly up by 16.7 percent, to a total of 18,908 tonnes.
Gothenburg Airport, however, saw its dwindling cargo volumes further down by 22 percent, y-o-y, to 36,775 tonnes.
Together, the three airports dropped 2.9 percent, y-o-y, in volumes to 149,486 tonnes in the first eight months of this year.
Looking forward, Swedavia expect volumes at Stockholm Arlanda to rise further in this autumn due to the move of TNT traffic from Vasteraas to Stockholm Arlanda from September 1, 2015, as well as the new route from September 10, 2015 by SAS to Hong Kong, and Norwegian's opening of flights from Stockholm to Puerto Rico from November 3, 2015, and to Las Vegas from October 31, 2015.
Earlier thriving on not least Ericsson exports, Gothenburg Airport has been in a sustained free fall in cargo volumes over the last few years.
From the start of 2014, Emirates reduced its freighter services at the airport from three to two weekly rotations and pulled out entirely from July 1, 2014, moving all Scandinavian freighter flights to Copenhagen instead, and prior to that Asiana also left Gothenburg Landvetter from September 7, 2012.
