Oct 01, 2015 (newstodate): The future of the SAS Group's Finnish subsidiary Blue1 has long been shrouded in mist. Now the skies have cleared..
SAS has signed an agreement over cooperation Cityjet on regional jet services, and as part of this collaboration, Cityjet is acquiring all shares in Blue1.
The agreement with Cityjet includes the wet-lease of eight new Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft, adding to the 12 similar CRJ900 aircraft already operating for SAS by its other subsidiary, Cimber.
The new aircraft will enter service from March 26, 2016, on routes and at times when there is a need for smaller aircraft.
The wet-lease agreement is for three years and covers eight Bombardier CRJ900 with an option on a further six aircraft.
It remains unclear if Blue1 will remain as a carrier registered in Finland, or if its brand name will remain in the air.
CityJet is an Irish regional airline with headquarters in Swords, Dublin.
It operates under its own brand as well as wet-lease services on behalf of its partner Air France, which was the main owner until May 2014 when CityJet was sold to German owners Intro Aviation.
