Oct 28, 2015 (newstodate): Poland is soon to commission its latest new airport, Szczytno-Szymany International Airport, a former military air force base, and plans for the first scheduled flights have been revealed.
While details are still sparse, the plans by the airport includes the opening of flights to Oslo, Norway, from 2016 as well as to London and Dublin.
So far the operator of flights on the new routes has not been announced.
As a first step, flights will be opened from spring 2016 from Szymany to three German destinations Berlin, Munich and Cologne, and flights on these routes will be performed by the Polish carrier Sprint Air offering three weekly rotations.
Equipped with a 2,500m runway and a passenger terminal with capacity of handling 500 passengers per hour, the airport sees its future with charter operators as well as carriers serving the industrial complex in the Mazurian region.
Sprint Air operates a fleet of 18 aircraft including three SAAB340 passenger aircraft as well as five SAAB340 QC aircraft.
