Oct 12, 2015 (newstodate): The air space over Syria and Iraq has been almost emptied of commercial air traffic.
Due to the military movements and fear of misguided missiles, commercial airlines are now rerouting all traffic to avoid coming to close to, or through, the airspace of Syria and Iraq, taking instead the routes over Iran that has consequently been forced to expand and upgrade its ATM capabilities.
The changes in flight patterns include not least the traffic between Europe and the Gulf states that is now flying over the Mediterranean and Iran, with penalties on flying times and fuel consumption.
