Oct 07, 2015 (newstodate): Iran is preparing for a major upgrading of its infrastructure following on the lifting of sanction after the agreement between the country and the "5+1" countries.
As one key element, the government will expand and modernize the provision of air services and airports, and plans include the construction over the coming 10 years of seven new international airports around Tehran to boost also the country's position as a regional hub.
These airport would each have the capacity of serving up to 400 international long-haul flights, but realization of the plans would require attracting foreign investors as the Iranian state plans to lift and/or ease conditions for cooperation with these companies.
In Iran, air transportation today accounts for only 0.1 percent of the total market, and this should rise to one percent in the coming years.
