Oct 02, 2015 (newstodate): Now it's a deal: a Letter of Intent has been signed between Sukhoi and Greenland Express for lease of the Superjet 100.
The contract marks a significant break-through for Russia's efforts to land customers among western airlines for the country's latest new commercial aircraft.
-At the moment the parties continue negotiations to cover financial issues of the deal, a CSAC representative confirms to newstodate.
During the recent MAKS exhibition, the state corporation Vnesheconombank and Ilyushin Finance Co. agreed to cooperate to finance the deliveries of Sukhoi SuperJet 100 aircraft to the European market, and the contract with Greenland Express builds on this arrangement.
-The aircraft financial lease contract will comprise a total of five aircraft, of which the first two to be delivered in 2016 will be the current basic version while the three aircraft in 2017-18 will be the coming new long-range version equipped with new stronger and even more fuel-efficient engines under development, says Gert Brask, Greenland Express.
According to Mr Brask, the first Superjet 100 aircraft will be delivered to the Greenlandic company in Q2, 2016.
While being part of the Kingdom of Denmark, Greenland is an autonomous country and therefore not a party to the ongoing sanctions by the EU and other states against Russia.
