Oct 06, 2015 (newstodate): The Faeroese forwarding company EUR Express has become the first forwarder to settle at Vagar Airport.
EUR Express moved into the former passenger terminal at Vagar Airport as it inaugurated its new passenger terminal in 2014, and established a 300 sq m warehouse plus own offices some six months ago.
-Prospects for airfreight at the Faeroe Islands are rather encouraging, says Eron Debes, EUR Express.
-First of all, the new Airbus fleet of Atlantic Airways offers a significant capacity available in the market that was earlier under-served in this respect.
-After Maersk Air's Boeing 737 services pulled out from the Faeroe Islands in 2004, Atlantic Airways was alone with a fleet of Avro aircraft that offered little cargo capacity which meant that the air cargo market shrank to next to nothing.
-The challenge now is really to come up with new concepts and projects to boost the volumes of export airfreight to and from the country, and we are indeed seeing things catching up and growth returning in the market. At the moment I am aware of several projects to generate new export airfreight, says Mr Debes.
EUR Express currently employs nine staff dedicated to airfreight.
