Oct 29, 2015 (newstodate): The uncertainty over the outcome of the EU Probe into Estonian Air casts long shadows over Estonia's civil aviation.
As a precautionary measure taken to ensure the sustained traffic on the route, the carrier has passed its contract with Sweden's Orebro Airport for flights to Copenhagen Airport to the state-owned company Nordic Aviation Group, set up by the Estonian state as a shadow airline to enter business if, or when, the EU investigation may end up with demands for Estonian Air to repay the allegedly illegal state loans. Which would spell the end of Estonian Air.
On its side, Nordic Aviation Group will then operate flights on the route with wet-leased aircraft from is so-called "operative partner", the Slovenian carrier Adria Airways.
From the launch of flights on the route on October 26, 2015, Estonian Air is serving the route with a CRJ700 aircraft - an aircraft type also in the fleet of Adria Airways.
Adria Airways is already operating flights to Scandinavia with two weekly rotations between Ljubljana and Copenhagen during this winter schedule, while the flight, operated during the summer, between Ljubljana and Stockholm has been cancelled.
