Oct 28, 2015 (newstodate): The ongoing reshuffling of the ground handling business in Scandinavia after the planned spin-off of by SAS of its handling activities creates new opportunities in the market.
As one example, Wideroe is to take over all ground handling activities from SGH at 14 Norwegian line station, excluding the SAS hub at Oslo Gardermoen Airport.
With this move, Wideroe Ground Handling will become the largest provider of handling services at Norway's regional and local airports after today employing 220 staff at 28 airports in Norway.
After the full take-over, Wideroe Ground Handling will thus grow to offering handling services at 42 stations in Norway.
With the growing strength in the Norwegian market, Wideroe is expected to pursue an aggressive marketing strategy to win over new airline customers currently served by its competitor, Aviator.
In Norway, Aviator is today active only at Oslo Gardermoen Airport, Bergen Airport Flesland, Aalesund Vigra Airport, and Bardufoss Airport.
As reported by newstodate, Wideroe Ground Handling has so far succeeded in winning Wizz Air and KLM contracts from Aviator at Sandefjord Torp Airport from November 1, 2015.
