Oct 15, 2015 (newstodate): The Belarus carrier Rada Airlines is offering a unique freighter aircraft to the market: IL-62M.
The aircraft can lift up to 40 tonnes of cargo and is especially targeting the market for ad-hoc long-haul cargo flights above 3,000 km and up to 6,200 km, promising per-kilo rates below those of a competitor like the IL-76 despite a comparatively high fuel burn.
The airline's IL-62 is fitted with a large cargo door measuring 3.45x2,00 m and is so far the only IL-62 aircraft converted.
The IL-62M Freighter is capable of loading bulk or palletized cargo, such as general cargo, perishables, engineering equipment, oil and gas industry equipment, dangerous goods of all classes, live animals or humanitarian cargo.
Plans are, however, to take in a second similar aircraft, currently under conversion from passenger version, by early 2016.
The freighter is certified to ICAO Chapter 3 and thus permitted to operate into European airports.
Rada Airlines received its AOC on September 11, 2015
