Oct 02, 2015 (newstodate): Aeroflot has decided not to pursue the plan to take over the ailing Russian carrier Transaero that may now instead be facing bankruptcy.
Plans were to take 75 percent plus one share in Transaero, but the offer was eventually not realized.
September 328, 2015, was set as the deadline for Transaero to team up the shareholders to accept Aeroflot's offer, but in the end the company's board did not manage to collect enough shares to conclude the deal.
It now remains to be seen if the state or the creditors will file the request for declaring the carrier's bankruptcy.
In January-July 2015, Aeroflot was #2 on the Top-5 list with 351,373 tonnes, and Transaero was ranked #3 with 162,259 tonnes.
And in the same period, #1 among the Top-5 Russian carriers was Aeroflot that transported 41,599,123 passengers and #2 Transaero another 24,475,758, making a joint total of 66,074,881 passengers.
