Jan 13, 2015 (newstodate): With a new manager in the seat at Blue Water Shipping Iceland, potentials in cooperation between Iceland and the Faeroe Islands for new logistic solutions may gain fresh impetus.
Taking up the position as BWS general manager Iceland from January 1, 2015, is Magnus Joensen, a Faeroese national with eight years of experience with BWS.
-It comes natural for me to exploit these potentials in logistics comprising shipments from Iceland by air via Vagar Airport on the Faeroe Islands, says Mr Joensen.
-We could easily fly ex-Iceland shipments to Vagar from where Atlantic Airways has frequent and capacious connections to Copenhagen and Billund in Denmark and onward to end destinations by other airlines.
-Except for a few seasonal peaks, Atlantic Airways has available cargo capacity on its Airbus A319 aircraft, and it would be up to issues of rate levels and market demands to decide if this might be a viable option.
-Icelandair has a rather dominant position in the Icelandic market so it would of course be interesting to see if the market would welcome a fresh initiative and a new complement to existing offerings, says Mr Joensen.
