Jan 12, 2015 (newstodate): Steadier flows of shipments over the year and less marked seasonal peaks may be a new pattern emerging in the airfreight industry.
-We did not see any marked peak during the recent pre-Christmas period as was earlier the case. The was indeed a growth in volumes, especially to the US but this could also be a currency effect but no real Christmas peak, says Michael Schoop, Lufthansa Cargo country manager Denmark.
-This change in earlier patterns indicates that shippers are getting better at managing their transport flows due to an improved match between production and sales over the year.
-As usual, we still handled a significant volume of ad-hoc shipments during the pre-Christmas season, only less than in previous years. 2013 actually showed the same picture.
-A more steady flow is indeed a benefit to all parties involved and certainly for an airline that can better manage the allocation of capacity and utilization of resources to ensure quality in service.
-Lufthansa Cargo has seen a sound increase in the Danish market during the recent months, and in the coming months we will put further stress on on e-services as well as special products including our express services that will receive a fresh focus in our sales efforts, says Mr Schoop.
