Jan 26, 2015 (newstodate): What are Ryanair's plans for its flights at Latvia's Riga Airport?
On one hand, Ryanair - the second-largest carrier at Riga Airport - has still not signed a new contract due to a prolonged dispute over airport charges, leaving it an open question if the low-cost carrier intends to stay or not.
On the other hand, Ryan air has just celebrated its 8 millionth customer at Riga Airport.
-Today marks a great milestone for Ryanair and we look forward to a continuous cooperation with Riga airport to be able to offer our Latvian customers the lowest fares as well as the best customer service, the carrier's Nordic Sales & Marketing Executive Neringa Ohrstrom said on the occasion.
And according to its current plans, Ryanair will be offering 55 weekly flights at Riga Airport on 13 routes, including a route to Cologne that will be extended from the current winter season.
Ryanair first launched business at Riga Airport on October 31, 2004, with flights to London, Tampere and Frankfurt.
In the autumn 2011 a rift developed between Ryanair and Riga Airport over airport charges, with Ryanair threatening to scale down by 30 percent in a protest against the introduction of security charges - but the carrier won its case in a London Court.
