Jan 14, 2015 (newstodate): Days of jubilation over record-high cargo volumes through Latvia's Riga Airport are over, according to 2014 full-year figures.
Over the year the airport handled a total of 32,983 tonnes, a decline by 38.4 percent, compared to 2013 that set an all-time high due to the massive influx of cargo destined for the ISAF forces in Afghanistan.
With this traffic gone, or at least scaling down, the situation at Riga Airport will gradually return to former days when the national carrier airBaltic was the main generator of air cargo.
In December 2014 the airport saw volumes down by 15.6 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 2,069 tonnes.
