Jan 13, 2015 (newstodate): Despite the turbulent relations between Russia and Ukraine, NATO has secured the extension of its contract for military uplift capacity under SALIS.
NATO will thus continue the contract until the end of 2016 with Ukraine's Antonov Airlines and Russia's Volga-Dnepr.
The contract between NATO member countries in the Strategic Airlift Interim Solution, SALIS, and the two parties was set up in February, 2006, and provides for the stationing of two AN-124-100 aircraft at Leipzig Halle Airport, while another four AN-124 aircraft will be allocated upon request as needed by the NATO and EU members of SALIS.
