Jan 06, 21015 (newstodate): Menzies Aviation is back in Denmark again from April 1, 2015 after a brief and unhappy first experience in 2007-2008.
The decision to relaunch handling services in Copenhagen Airport is driving by a fresh contract with Norwegian for handling of this carrier in the airports of Oslo and Copenhagen, dealing a knock-out blow to Aviator that has been handling Norwegian as its single largest customer.
Menzies is keenly aware of the efforts required to wash away the deep stains on its image in the Danish market where it entered rather abruptly to serve Sterling Airways until this carrier collapsed on October 29, 2008.
After this, Menzies Denmark was declared bankrupt and pulled out from the market.
-We are keenly aware of this tainted image, but the contract with Norwegian fills us with confidence for a fresh return and we will focus all efforts to serve our customer with on-time performance, says John Geddes, John Menzies plc Group Company Secretary.
-From the start we will install a task force comprising experienced staff from around our European stations to ensure a flawless opening of services, and this will remain in place until a fully trained local staff can take over.
-Details about the new organization, staffing and local management will now be worked out and announced, but let me stress that Menzies is today an entirely different company with an expanding global presence and serving a wide range of international airlines.
-Norwegian will have our full focus from the start, but we do expect, of course, to bring in new customers as our new operation and the Danish station is consolidated, says Mr Geddes.
