Jan 05, 2015 (newstodate): Azerbaijan's cargo carrier Silk Way Airlines has signed a fresh order for more Boeing 747-8 freighters.
A deal was announced on December 24, 2014, with Boeing for delivery of another three Boeing 747-8F aircraft in 2015 and 2016.
The company received two similar aircraft in Autumn 2014 now in service together with three Boeing 747-400F and and two Boeing 767-300F freighters.
Still unconfirmed, information circulating in Riga's air cargo society claims that Silk Way Airlines is in talks with the airport authorities and the Latvian state over plans for construction of a major new air cargo terminal complex at Riga Airport.
If realized, the new complex would provide the carrier with a European cargo hub to serve its traffic between Europe and the CIS region, including Azerbaijan.
In the project will also be construction of new access roads to the airport to ease onward trucking as well as other road traffic relieving today's congestion on the existing road between the airport and Riga.
While currently declining from any comment on the issue, a official at Riga Airport has told newstodate that information may be provided by the end of January 2015.
