Jan 28, 2015 (newstodate): Long rumored, it is now at least confirmed that the Azerbaijan's Silk Way Group is in talks with Riga Airport in Latvia over a hub project.
-The project is still in its early stage of development and it is too early to make any predictions regard the possible outcome. We will have more information around April, says Peteris Tars, Riga International Airport Senior Public Relations Specialist.
According to industry sources, Silk Way is in talks with the airport authorities and the Latvian state over plans for construction of a major new air cargo terminal complex at Riga Airport.
If realized, the new complex would provide the carrier with a European cargo hub to serve its traffic between Europe and the CIS region, including Azerbaijan.
The project will reportedly also include the construction of new access roads to the airport to ease airfreight trucking as well as other road traffic relieving today's congestion on the existing road between the airport and the city of Riga.
