Jan 23, 2015 (newstodate): Airbus aircraft have emerged as the prime choice by carriers operating between Denmark and the North Atlantic islands.
In 2003, Air Greenland replaced its earlier Boeing 757-200 aircraft with an Airbus A330-200 to serve the trunk route between Kangerlussuaq and Copenhagen.
This was followed, in 2012, by the Faeroe carrier Atlantic Airways that replaced its earlier BAe 146 aircraft fleet with three Airbus A319 aircraft that now operate the route between Vagar Airport and Copenhagen.
In 2014, a new low-cost carrier took to the skies - Greenland Express that, however, proved a limited success with only a short period of irregular flights between Kangerlussuaq and Aalborg/Copenhagen in Denmark with a Fokker 100 aircraft from Denim Air.
Greenland Express that does not have an own AOC is now set on making another attempt in 2015, this time with an Airbus A319 to be chartered from a yet-unknown operator.
Finally, 2015 will also see the launch of another new Greenland carrier, Aluu Airlines that will start business as a fully licensed airline with on own AOC, building on traffic by an A321 aircraft on the North Atlantic route as well as ATR aircraft on domestic feeder flights in Greenland.
