Jan 22, 2015 (newstodate): Norway's export of salmon to the global marketplace saw a sustained growth in 2014.
This was in spite of the shortfall of exports to Russia where volumes were down by 55 percent, y-o-y.
In all, Norway increased its total volume of salmon exports by four percent, y-o-y, to no less than 999,000 tonnes, all products included.
The country's exporters were able to redirect the over-capacity of salmon after the Russian embargo to other markets, primarily to the EU market that took 720,000 tonnes, an increase by 11 percent, y-o-y.
Salmon exports to the US market increased by 47 percent, y-o-y, corresponding to 9,000 tonnes, including 7,000 tonnes of fresh salmon lifted by air.
Volumes to Asia were up by 11 percent, corresponding to 14,000 tonnes, with Japan and China as the fastest-growing markets in 2014.
