Jan 05, 2015 (newstodate): Denmark's Billund Airport noted a slight fall in cargo volumes through 2014, compared to a record year in 2013.
A total of 62,608 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport's Cargo Center Billund, down 1.3 percent, y-o-y, while imports dropped by 17.8 percent to 22,810 tonnes.
On the positive side, the airport saw its largest export volumes ever, totaling 39,798 tonnes - up 11.5 percent, y-o-y.
One major event in 2013 provides a perspective on Billund's performance in 2014 when comparing the two years: in October 2013, DHL Aviation stopped its rotation with a Boeing 757-200F freighter between Leipzig and Billund, replacing it with a stop on the return flights from Orebro, in Sweden, to load export shipments on the flight back to Leipzig.
This caused an immediate decline in import volumes at Billund Airport, but despite this change change in traffic export volumes at Billund did overtake volumes in 2013 by a large margin in 2014.
In December 2014 alone, the airport generated a total of 4,735 tonnes of cargo, up 2.8 percent, y-o-y, including 1,589 tonnes of imports, down 16.1 percent, and 3,146 tonnes of exports that were up by 16 percent, y-o-y.
2013 marked a record in cargo at Billund Airport landing at a total of 63,420 tonnes of cargo, an increase by 2.8 percent, y-o-y.
Behind that record was a 10 percent hike in exports, to 35,686 tonnes, while imports dropped by 5.1 percent, to 27,734 tonnes.
