Sep 24, 2014 (newstodate): The conflict over Ukraine is taking a toll on Russian carriers.
Two major carriers, UTAir and Transaero have applied to the Russian state for financial support as a result of declining sales on international flights.
Estimates are that the volume of Russian travelers on international flights have declined by between 30 and 50 percent over the last few months.
The carriers have accumulated a debts pile due to the shortfall of traffic and the need to bypass Ukraine on flights between Russia and the West.
