Sep 11, 2014 (newstodate): Sweden's Stockholm Skavsta Airport may breathe some fresh air again in 2015 after meagre traffic news in 2014 as Ryanair pulled out from the airport that has since seen volumes down by one-third.
The Hungarian carrier Wizz Air has announced new routes from 2015, bringing the total number of its routes from Skavsta to nine.
Starting from May 21, 2015, the carrier will launch flights from Skavsta to Lublin in Poland, and from July 27, 2015, a new route to Bucharest will follow.
The carrier has also announced an increase in frequencies on its existing routes from Skavsta to Katowize and to Poznan from two to three weekly rotations, starting from March 31, 2015.
Since September 1, 2014, Skavsta Airport is managed by Dutch national Peter Steinmetz, coming from a position as the Dutch Schiphol Group's managing director for Queen Beatrix International Airport in Oranjestad, Aruba.
On October 1, 2013, the US company ADC & HAS Airports Worldwide acquired a majority stake at close to 90 percent in Skavsta Airport, with the regional government maintaining the remainder of the shares.
