Sep 25, 2014 (newstodate): Cargo volumes are indeed rising at Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda Airport in 2014.
While the monthly CASS statistics show a generally downward trend in Sweden's export airfreight on IATA carriers, the official statistics from Swedavia demonstrate a significant increase in total air cargo volumes handled at the airport.
In the first eight months of this year, the airport thus handled a total of 42,821 tonnes of cargo, an increase by no less than 29.2 percent, y-o-y.
-Yes, Arlanda's airfreight volumes are indeed rising fast, says Ylva Arvidssson, Swedavia Director Cargo.
-Compared to 2013, Stockholm Arlanda Airport is seeing more intercontinental lines, and the the freight forwarders and shippers have responded vigorously to the availability of increased belly cargo capacity.
-Also contributing to the positive development in cargo volumes are airline's gradual shift to larger aircraft to serve the increasing demand for passenger transportation.
-More flights to a growing number of destinations by regular, frequent and scheduled services offer better opportunities for forwarders to organize their cargo flows through Stockholm Arlanda Airport, rather than trucking large volumes down to continental airports for consolidation, says Ms Arvidssson.
