Sep 02, 2014 (newstodate): Needless to say, the news of WFS' take-over of all Swissport cargo activities at Copenhagen Airport from October 1, 2014, took the industry by surprise.
Not least in light of the LoI signed on March 2013, whereby SAS and Swissport announced continued negotiations between the SAS Group and Swissport over the complete outsourcing to Swissport of SGH, SAS' ground and cargo handling services in Scandinavia.
This was later followed by Swissport's modest 10 percent stake in SGH announced on November 1, 2013, after which date little, or rather nothing, has been said about the status of the process.
Still, it might have been expected that if Swissport was to leave Copenhagen Airport entirely, a sale to SGH would have been a logical venue.
And so it was, newstodate can reveal.
-The business was indeed offered to SGH who decided, however, not to buy it, says Sabine Fernandez Meinitz, Swissport International Ltd.
-As announced on August 29, we have instead signed an agreement with WFS - a major player in Ground handling and cargo handling and therefore perfectly equipped to take over the business.
-The disposal of Swissport's cargo business at Copenhagen Airport to WFS has no impact on the 10 percent minority stake in SGH or on future negotiations, states Ms Fernandez Meinitz.
So, time will show if the Swissport/SGH deal will eventually be sealed..
