Sep 12, 2014 (newstodate): Russia's embargo on imports of seafood from EU and other countries, including notably Norway, is having an impact on logistics as well.
The world's leading exporter of seafood, Norway is seeking alternative markets to consume the volumes earlier exported to Russia, and this is shifting volumes from road to air transportation.
-We are indeed already seeing increased volumes of seafood turning to air transportation, and this process will speed up further as we get deeper into the autumn season, gaining momentum from October, says Knut Eriksmoen, Schenker AS Director Air & Ocean Freight Norway.
-These increases will be seen not least in export airfreight to North America and certain destination in the Far East. Capacity-wise, we will be fully able to respond to this, given the current traffic by carriers serving the Norwegian market such as AF/KLM, Norwegian and SAS, and we are convinced that we will be able to provide the market with capacity via more alternative gateways including London Heathrow, Paris Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, says Mr Eriksmoen.
