Sep 03, 2014 (newstodate): Sweden's Jonkoping Airport saw its cargo and mail volumes at 360 tonnes in August 2014 - an increase by 11 percent, y-o-y.
Of this, international cargo reached 294 tonnes, the second-largest monthly volume after only October 2013 when the airport handled 360 tonnes of international cargo.
After Post Sweden's decision from July 1, 2012, to lay down Jonkoping Airport as a "mini-hub", the airport has seen its postal volumes down to some 20 percent against 2/3 before that.
The general downturn in Sweden's economic performance in 2014 is however also making its market on the cargo traffic at Jonkoping Airport.
During the first eight months of this year, the airport has handled a total of 2,709 tonnes of cargo and mail, down five percent, y-o-y.
The decline is driven by a sustained fall in mail volumes while international cargo is still up three percent, not least due to a continued rise in cargo by TNT/time:matters.
The airport now estimates that volumes in 2014, mail and cargo combined, will land around the level in 2013, when a total of 3,190 tonnes of cargo and mail was handled, but after an increase by 10 percent, y-o-y.
