But this is only one item in the significant plans for expansion by the Icelandic carrier.
Icelandair is preparing for the largest international flight schedule in the company´s history, with an increase by 12 percent, y-o-y, and the number of passengers estimated to reach 2.9 million in 2015, an increase by approximately 300,000.
12 flights will be added weekly to both North America and Europe, respectively, with 254 departures from Keflavik airport weekly, to 278 departures over the high season next summer.
Birmingham, UK and Portland, Oregon, USA will be added as new destinations, while flights to St Petersburg will be discontinued.
The intensified summer schedule will require the operation of a total of 23 Boeing 757 aircraft against 21 in summer 2014.
