Sep 23, 2014 (newstodate): Tomorrow, September 24, 2014, will mark a most special day in the history of Russia's aviation history: for the first time ever, a non-Russian pilot will be at the flight controls of an Aeroflot aircraft!
Breaking the tradition will be a German pilot, Klaus Dieter Rohlfs in the captain's seat on a flight from Moscow to Prague.
In an amendment to the law this summer, Russia has allowed for Russian carriers to hire up to a total of 200 foreign pilots and captains per year, and Aeroflot alone has received more than 800 applications from pilots primarily in the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy and Spain.
So far 40 applicants have been selected.
