Sep 01, 2014(newstodate): Finnair Cargo is among the world's first airlines to participate in IATA's pharmaceutical certification process.
The carrier has established its second European cargo hub at Belgium's Brussels Airport that will be the first airport community to be certified by IATA, serving as a pilot project for IATA.
On August 19, 2014, the kick-off of the BRUcargo pharma certification program took place together with the IATA project team and the 11 participating companies including Brussels Airlines Cargo, Finnair Cargo, Aviapartner, Swissport, WFS, AD Handling, BPL, Expeditors, UTi, SDV, and the trucking company Jan de Rijk.
In the next four months all participants will be assessed against the checklist of the global pharma certification standard developed by IATA. The aim is to close any gap in the pharma cool chain through the airport and upgrade, align and standardize the pharma handling process.
By the end of 2014, the process will culminate in the certification of the BRUcargo-based pharma handling activities of the participants.
Finnair set up its cargo hub at Brussels from April 2013 and is now operating four weekly wide-body freighter frequency from Brussels with A300-600 freighter departures on Mondays and Saturdays, and A340 passenger flights on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
