Sep 26, 2014 (newstodate): Finnair is blazing new (t-)rails between Helsinki and the Russian market..
The carrier has entered a cooperation with Finnish railway operator VR to offer combined air/rail tickets between Saint Petersburg and international destinations served by Finnair connecting via Helsinki.
The cooperation takes effect from October 1, 2014, enabling customers flying throughout Finnair's network to connect to and from Saint Petersburg on the high-speed Allegro train between Helsinki's Central Railway Station and Saint Petersburg's Finland Station.
Passport and customs procedures are carried out on board the train while en route, saving customers' time and allowing for smooth passenger services.
In mid-2015 a rail link from Tikkurila Station to Helsinki Airport will be completed, making possible a seamless transfer from the Allegro train straight to the airport.
The new air/rail service completes Finnair's existing twice-daily flights between Helsinki and St Petersburg.
