Sep 25, 2014 (newstodate): By early 2015, Finnair Cargo will become one of the world's first airlines to complete IATA's pharmaceutical certification process.
On August 19, 2014, the kick-off of the BRUcargo pharma certification program took place together with the IATA project team and the 11 participating companies including Brussels Airlines Cargo, Finnair Cargo, Aviapartner, Swissport, WFS, AD Handling, BPL, Expeditors, UTi, SDV, and the trucking company Jan de Rijk.
Brussels Zaventem Airport has served as Finnair Cargo's 2nd European hub since April 2013, and the carrier has a special focus on the region's pharma cluster comprising several of Europe's leading pharmaceutical industries that require air services in their logistics.
-Our pharma traffic is developing in the right direction, still comprising mainly ad-hoc traffic primarily from the Brussels area, but we are focusing on steady traffic flows, and with IATA PHARMA certification scheduled by January 2015 we will have increased leverage to work with the pharmaceutical industry in the Brussels area, says Juha Jarvinen, Finnair CCO and Finnair Cargo managing director.
-We have seen monthly improvements in our Brussels operation that now comprises two weekly Airbus A340 and two weekly Airbus A300-600F operations.
-In addition, we have also decided to continue the Airbus A340 operations in the winter season, with year-round multiple departures offering wide-body capacity, says Mr Jarvinen.
