Sep 29, 2014 (newstodate): The Danish carrier Cimber has announced that all activities will cease as of April 1, 2015 - unless new opportunities arise.
For 10 years, Cimber has been provider to SAS, currently operating four CRJ200 aircraft on regional routes on behalf for its client.
SAS has, however, decided not to extend the contract expiring by the end of March 2015, leaving Cimber with a blank order book after this date.
-In order to take timely precautions facing this situation, we have decided to inform our 130 staff of the decision to close down the company in full observance of all contractual obligations, says Jorgen Nielsen, Cimber Accountable Manager and co-owner.
-As an order-driven company we will earn money from existing contracts until their expiry in 2015, so we are in no acute financial difficulty. But we will close down the company in an orderly fashion unless new business opportunities arise.
-It is, however, a difficult and demanding business and we do not currently see any new openings around. Our OAC remains an important asset, though, so if there might be some partner, yet unidentified, that would have a project in mind we are fully prepared to face new challenges, says Mr Nielsen.
Cimber was established 15 May 2012 after the bankruptcy of Cimber Sterling earlier same month.
Cimber Sterling was set up on August 1, 1950, but met its destiny after the Ukrainian oligarch Igor Kolomoyski acquired a majority stake in 2011.
