Sep 05, 2014 (newstodate): Finnair has managed to rein in the available capacity offered in the market while increasing its revenue tonne kilometers, which might bode well for revenues were it not for a negative effect from declining rates.
In August 2014, the company's total tonnage was down 3.3 percent, y-o-y, to 12,707 tonnes, of which pax aircraft lifted 9,781 tonnes, down one percent, and freighters another 2,919 tonnes, down 10.3 percent.
Volumes on passenger flights in the Asian segment were up 0.7 percent to 7,187 tonnes, while the European segment dropped 3.5 percent to 1,982 tonnes.
Volumes on the North Atlantic routes decreased by 9.4 percent, y-o-y, to 757 tonnes during the month.
During January-August 2014 the carrier has thus seen its total volumes up 4.3 percent to 99,696 tonnes including 75,803 tonnes on passenger aircraft, up 1.7 percent, and 23,818 tonnes on freighters which is an increase by 14.5 percent, y-o-y.
